FOOD & WINE PAIRING: “This wine results from a partnership between German and American interests, hence the comprehensible, non-Teutonic name. But it’s simple: Pure citrus, ginger, and mineral notes make it a perfect match for the Sesame Noodle Salad with Tofu salad, and its hint of sweetness means that you can ramp up the chile as much as you want.”

“Pleasantly tart with delicate fruit, flora, and herbaceous notes. A little less sweet than most in our tests. Try it with party snacks. It’s also nice on its own as an aperitif.”

“The name asks you to ignore your Pavlovian response that German wines are sweet and approach this one with an open mind. But slate is also the perfect word for the taste of this mineral-infused treat, although the dryness is nicely moderated by the fruit. The ideal accompaniment for spicy crab cakes.”

“You can't find a better white wine for $11 than this. It's a mélange of tropical fruit lushness and bracing, citrus crispness - just think of tangy fresh pineapple.”

With Clean Slate at the party, your friends will know that this evening is about the future, not the past. It's a great glass of wine – the German producer says ‘überfresh,’ and that's accurate. It's low in alcohol too, which means you'll have a clear head when the clock strikes midnight."

A reference to the blue slate stones that line the Mosel River valley, this slightly sweet German Riesling represents the ideal diplomatic gesture.”

RECOMMENDED: “A brunch wine if I’ve ever tasted one. I was initially a little concerned when I saw the 10.5% ABV on the label. I half-expected a thick, syrupy glassful. Thankfully, this Riesling from the Mosel region of Germany dispelled that apprehension in short order. There is some sweetness here, but it’s in the ‘honeycrisp apple’ family of sweet. Alongside the orange and peach flavors in the body is a fair amount of the mineral implied by its moniker. It finishes sweet and a tad acidic.”

“Transparent pale gold. Good aromatic fruit scents, peach and a whiff of mango, fresh but not over the top. Flavors are consistent with the nose, fresh mango and tart acidity, and perhaps just a hint of that fabled Mosel slatey stony character in the background. If there's sweetness there, it's hard to pick out against the zippy acidity. Light 10.5% alcohol makes for easy sipping as table wine or aperitif, and there's a gentle peach-pit bitterness in the finish.”

Sheri pairs this wine with Vietnamese Shrimp Summer Rolls and Thai yellow curry. The maps do not match, but this Riesling, like many others, balances a dollop of sweet with the grape’s characteristic high acidity.

Fills the need for a light poolside quaffer, combining aromas of fresh greens, lime and apple with a hint of slate-driven minerality. Green apple and citrus flavors could use a litte more length and intensity, but overall it's nicely balanced, crisp and focused.
